Scholarships


The Elisabeth Woodburn Fund of the ABAA will be offering four $1,000 and two $500 scholarships towards tuition at this year’s Seminar. Applicants should submit essays stating their reasons for wishing to attend. Preference will be given to those who demonstrate need. Entries must be received no later than Sunday, June 15, 2008. Letters of support from ABAA members are welcome, but not necessary. Winners will be notified as soon after July 1 as possible.

Are you thinking of becoming a bookseller? Or, have you just started to sell books? Enter the AbeBooks Scholarship contest to attend the 30th Annual Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar, a seminar for booksellers, librarians, and collectors.

The lucky winner will have their seminar tuition of $1,195 USD paid for by AbeBooks.com.

Entering is easy – simply write a short essay about what or who inspired you to become a bookseller and why you are passionate about selling books. If you’re not a bookseller yet, tell us what inspired you and why you are passionate about collecting books.

The person who best explains their inspiration and passion will win. AbeBooks.com will publish the top essays online in a special section.

This contest is open to anyone who has an AbeBooks bookseller or buyer account. Each entry will be judged by AbeBooks’ Maria Hutchison, on originality and focus. The contest closes on June 30, 2008, and is open to residents of Canada and the United States – good luck!

Alibris announces the competition for the Weatherford Scholarship to the 2008 Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar for booksellers, librarians, and collectors.

The Weatherford Scholarship is for $2,095.00 and is intended to cover
the seminar tuition, transportation, meals, all instructional materials,
Sunday evening reception, Monday picnic, Friday luncheon, transportation to off-site sessions, and daily breaks.

To apply for the scholarship applicants should follow the following
requirements and rules:

1) Applicant must be an active Alibris seller with at least a four star
rating.

2) Write a one-page letter (500 words or less) describing why they wish
to attend and why they should be awarded the scholarship.

3)Submit the application via email to both of the following addresses:
scholarship@alibris.com -and- richardw@alibris.com

4) Include 8-Character Alibris Seller ID on the application.

5) All entries must be postmarked no later than July 1st, 2008.

Applications will be reviewed and a winner selected by Richard
Weatherford in consultation with Alibris staff.

The scholarship winner will be notified by phone and/or email on July
15. The award will be recognized at the seminar.


Biblio.com is pleased to offer a scholarship to the 2008 Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar, held August 3-8, 2008.

Biblio is offering a scholarship for the full cost of tuition, $1095.00. Additionally, Biblio will offer the winner one year rebated listing fees, with Biblio's lowest commission plan. The winner will also have $500 donated in their name to the literacy charity of their choice.

Competition is open to any registered Biblio.com bookseller.

Contestants should provide:

1) A one page essay describing how their book selling business creates a positive impact in their community or the world. This may be interpreted broadly, such as work in encouraging literacy, efforts to recycle, etc.

2) Email your entry to Stephen Bakes at sbakes@biblio.com by July 1st, 2008.

The scholarship winner will be notified on July 11th.

In order to support the professional development of our member booksellers
and the good of the bookseller/buyer community as a whole, The Independent
Online Booksellers Association
(IOBA) is offering one scholarship to the
2008 Antiquarian Book Seminar, held in Colorado Springs, CO, USA August 3
through August 8, 2008. For sellers from North America, the scholarship will
have a total value of up to $1500 (full tuition, and partial reimbursement
of expenses). In order to offset the additional expenses involved for
sellers from other continents, the total value of tuition and reimbursed
expenses can be up to $2000. Only current IOBA members in good standing are
eligible to apply for this scholarship.

As part of the application process, applicants will be asked to write a one
or two page essay or letter (maximum of 1000 words) explaining how they will
use what they learn at the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar to give back
to the bookselling community and IOBA in particular. A letter of
recommendation from another bookseller (preferably from a member of IOBA) is
required.

All applications must be submitted by email no later than June 15, 2008.

The Rocky Mountain Antiquarian Booksellers Association (RMABA) is
offering two $750 scholarships to the 2008 Colorado Antiquarian Book
Seminar to be held August 3-8, 2008 at Colorado College in Colorado
Springs, Colorado.

Competition is open to residents of Colorado, Montana, Utah, New Mexico, and Wyoming. (RMABA member states).

To apply for a scholarship applicants should:

1. Write a ONE PAGE letter telling the committee about yourself and why you should receive one of the RMABA Scholarships. Letters of support are welcome, but not required.

2. Email your application (preferred) to scholarship@rmaba.org or send it to RMABA Scholarship, c/o Sue Gallagher, Gallagher Books, 1428 S. Broadway, Denver, CO 80210.

3. Entries must be emailed or postmarked no later than Tuesday, July 1,
2008.

Successful candidates will be notified by Tuesday, July 15, 2008 and the
awards will be presented at the seminar opening event.
